Basically, early intervention treatment for kids who are between 3-5 years old can improve prospects considerably - i.e. becoming a full functioning member of society. <br /><br />Last week my friend got a text message out of the blue saying that the centre had shut down due to lack of funding. Also, the quality of the program at LEARN is excellent, and the kids have a better chance staying with the therapists they've built a relationship with rather than a &quot;transitional program&quot;. <br /><br />So without state funding, the centre is looking for private funding to help keep the centre open - I think they've raised $150,000 of the $300,000 they need - which means there isn't a great deal of money left to raise - $8,500 per kid for a better life. <br /><br />I don't expect you guys will be able to donate, but I'd love if you could share this around to people who might be sympathetic:<br /><br /><hr width="40%" align="left" size="1" class="hr" /><br />MEDIA STATEMENT<br />Parents unite in desperate bid to keep<br />doors open for the LEARN Centre<br />Monday 21st May 2012<br /><br />The Parents of the embattled LEARN autism centre in East Fremantle have joined forces in a desperate bid to raise the money needed to keep the centre’s doors open.<br />Some high profile individuals and organisations have pledged some funds but the parent group are in a race against time to try to raise $300,000 by Friday 25th May.<br />The $300,000 would mean accumulated costs could be met and the company could re-open its doors and continue to provide services to the 35 children currently accessing LEARN’s program.<br />Parent Spokesman Simon Lewis said it is heartbreaking to see the doors of the centre closed and a ‘for lease’ sign already on the East Fremantle building.<br />“This is all about the getting the children and their families back into the specialised therapy needed to conquer their Autism. Just recently was i jumped from the labour camp due to their &quot;cash throwing&quot; policies, ie When K. Rudd gave ppl like 1 grand during the GFC, What did ppl actually do with that money? go buy chinese goods. Sure australian retailers would have also made a profit, but a good chunk of the recovery money probably went into recovering overseas economies. The other &quot;cash throwing&quot; policies i would say are the baby bonus and also the recent school children splurge(if ppl really use these for incentivies/need for having kids, well these ppl shouldnt have kids in the first place). Kudus for swan getting the buget into surplus though well impressed.
